Social Networking

I am just amazed there is over 200 social networking websites. I have had a Facebook account for awhile - got forced into it in the end. It just isn't my thing but I know a lot of people who use networking sites to contact old friends and meet new people. I actually know a real person who met their partner on Facebook and they are now married and living overseas. The sharing of photos on Facebook is great. My mum is 79 and she uses Facebook all the time. The concerns I have with social networks are that sometime people put far too much personal information on the internet and this really scares me at times. Also I know it is very hard to get your profile off Facebook or Myspace.

Wikis

I think the use of open and closed wikis to share knowledge is a good one. To think so many people from all over the world can share really nitty gritty hands on knowledge is great. I am not a made lover of wikis but things may change. I can't believe Princeston Public Library keeps the Book Lovers Wiki going just to show what their readers liked to read in 2006!

Photo fun

It has been fun using flickr to download great images. As you can see by the image I have downloaded I love birds; especially little birds. This image was put on flickr by Ian Michael Thomas who works at Latrobe Uni and these pictures were taken outside his office.
It is a blue male wren.
I did enjoy looking at vegemite images and my favourite was definitely Vegemite Sandwich - Zed.
I enjoyed learning about "The Commons" and I think this is a great pilot project between Flickr and the Library of Congress to increase access to publicly held photo collections and to enable the general public to contribute information and knowledge through tagging and commenting on images.
Of course the first image I wanted to add to my blog would not let me do it so it was good to find out why. In the future I am sure I will use flickr to share some of my own images that I really love.

More about my blog

I just thought it would be nice to put a photo of where I work at Coolum Beach Library. It is really quite an attractive building but now far too small for the population of this area. The thing I like most about the building is the large picture window. It really does make the building seem larger than it is and it is nice for the public to sit, read the newspapers and watch the world go by.

Fun Online

I have created this blog to allow me to complete the LIcence 2 Test Drive training provided by State Library of Queensland. I have to go home today so you will hear more from me in the coming weeks.
